IE and Firefox very slow
      #201694 - Wed Jun 22 2005 10:04 AM

For the past couple of day IE6 and Firefox have gone very slow, even timing out on a regular basis. Iam using broadband which is ok because I have tried the connection on my old pc. Do I have a virus or something.

Solved it by emptying my temporary internet files

Something you should do regularly! In IE, you can set it to clear Temporary Internet Files when you close the browser, go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, scroll down to security and put a tick in "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed", Apply and OK it. In Firefox, go to Tools>Options>Privacy and clear your cache. Also use Disk Cleanup regularly.

To err is human; to foul things up totally, you need a computer.

We just had this problem and emptying temp internet files and scanning for adware/spyware scanning the registry etc etc found very little wrong.....
Then we discussed exactly what we had done to both computers over the last few weeks........a Windows Update was the only common thing to both computers.
Then we discovered this site : http://www.digitalpath.net/support/manuals/docs/mtu_windows.php

We suspect that the windows update has reset the MTu value (although we could be wrong).

What we do know is that the slow browser problem and inability to log into hotmail/msn messenger and view ebay etc is a thing of the past.

Just thought we'd pass it on because if we are having a problem with very slow web browsers then someone else might be too..........
