Hi, This maybe a silly question but Is it possible to keep IE to use on the PC as well as another browser like firefox etc or will they clash with each other? Sorry but I haven't got a clue. Any advice appreciated many thanks Jenjen

Yes it's perfectly feasible. In fact you don't have any choice because Internet Explorer is an integral part of Windows so you can't get rid of it. Just download Firefox (or any other browser) and you can use it without any interference from IE.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

I have both Firefox and IE. I use FF most of the time as it's faster than IE. I mainly use IE to get Micro$oft/Windows security updates. As greysts says, you can't get rid of IE as it's part of Windows, but you can have as many browsers as you like. I also have the BT Yahoo! browser (from my ISP) and Maxthon, both of which are IE based. I'm thinking of getting Opera soon. Whichever browser you decide to use, there won't be a clash with IE. Also, certain sites won't let you use Firefox. But this doesn't happen very often. Out of the 40 or so sites I visit regularly, it only happens with 2.

The most common problem that you WILL have is those that use ActiveX controls such as Windows Update, as Firefox doesn't support ActiveX. One of these days, some web people will wake up and realise we don't want Active X controls placed on our systems

Quite so. The only time I use IE these days is to get Windows Updates. Oh yes, and Hotmail via MSN Messenger always opens in IE, although I can get Hotmail in Firefox. Madeline.

The only problem i have with FF is that i use a online course with learndirect that cannot use FF as there is no plugin for it. Something to do with Macromedia Authorware. All said, i still prefer FF over IE, and as Madeline says i also think it loads pages quicker.

Actually, you no longer need to use IE to get Windows Updates, you can get them through Firefox. Have a look at this thread. Madeline.
