My hard drive died so I had to replace it ever since then I can only be online around 5 mins then when I go to view another web page I get an error message saying page can't be found I have tried Netscape and IE and it happens on both. I have no idea what is wrong even my pc games won't work I get error messages when I install a game and try to play . Everything worked until I had to put in a new hard drive could I possibly need to update my drivers? It took 2 days just to get the computer to go online I have DSL and run windows XP home edition. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Pamm

When you installed your new hard drive how did you transfer all the programmes, data etc. from the old drive?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

No I could not transfer anything because the hard drive just stopped working. Before it went out I had no problem being online or playing my games. I only use the computer for playing games and the internet both of which I can't do now because the darn computer won't work right. I had to shut my browsers down then reboot just to get back online even when I tried to reply to your post I got a page can't be found message when I hit submit. Maybe I will have to buy a new computer. I am not smart when it comes to computers so have no idea how to fix the problem and I can't really afford to take it in to be fixed so guess I am out of luck. Pamm

OK, next question. How did you go about installing Windows again? Do you have a Windows XP CD? If you did install from scratch did you also download all the Critical Updates from the Microsoft site?

I called Maxtor who makes the hard drive and they told me to install my OS by using the software that came with my computer which is what I did then I put in windows xp service pack 2 and updated windows and it still won't work. I am going to take it into the computer shop because I can't fix it and have decided after messing with the computer for 4 days now that what ever is wrong is beyond me to fix. Guess I should have just taken it in and had the hard drive installed I should have know something would go wrong. Thanks for your help but I guess I am just to dumb to fix it myself *lol* Pamm

Up to you of course but we are more than willing to help you start again if you wish. I have to say that if you have managed to install a new hard disk, load XP onto it and then download SP2 you can't be that useless! If you want to try one more time, let us know.

I decided to install verizons software into mycomputer to see if that would help and when the download started it said I did not have the correct java for my internet it installed it and and so far I am able to stay on line I have been online now for 30 mins and so far my browsers are working hope that was the problem. I did check another site and it scanned my computer and showed that 65% of my drivers need updated to. I will let you know if the computer keeps working ok I hope it is now fixed if so who would have figured it would be something so simple. I sure hope that is all it was I never thought about needing the most recent java oh well live and learn. Pamm
