Disconnection interuption with AOL
      #199133 - Mon Jun 13 2005 01:17 PM

I have had a computer for many years and although I am 70 consider myself to be computer literate. I have been with AOL on dial-up for a number of years without any problems. Over the last six months have suffered from repeated disconnection problems. I have battled with the technical department of AOL, and eliminated any problems with Virus, Firewall, and Spyware aspects, all to no avail. AOL seem to have washed their hands of it, and suggested I change to Broadband. I am a casual user and Dial-up suits me fine. However, I also use Tiscali and have no trouble at all. There are no problems with AOL during night hours, only during the day and at its worst between 3.00pm and 12 midnight. I suggested to AOL that their system could not cope with the load, of which they made no comment. Has anyone else had this problem, if so what's the answer?

Hi Finn
3pm to 12 Am is when the Peak US Traffic comes on the AOL servers and Page loads can be occasionally slow (The UK subscribers share these servers despite being called AOL.co.uk) What you are seeing comes via a Server in Virginia USA

You did not say which version you are using.
I would recomend that you upgrade to AOL9 which has an online computer check-up program which will fix some connection issues.Run once per month to keep things as you'd like them Just click on the link in the Safety section to update.
The Help section also has "Fix it for Me" Wizards built in to resolve some connection and AOL Browser setup issues
To get access to all of these and more. Type Keyword "Safety"
PS AOL 9 has some Broadband related links, but these are "greyed out" until as such time as you want to upgrade.

hi all I am new here but had to respond!

I am on broadband - and have been with AOL for about 15 years - they drive me entirely INSANE. Like you say, they wash their hands of any problem.

I am disconnected so frequently it is starting to get ridiculous. They said there must be something wrong with my computer! I have had 3 independent consultants come and check my computer and modems etc.......and all gave a very good bill of health. For example, this morning, AOL has disconnected me 13 times in half an hour. This is without exaggeration and I am getting so mad!

I am ONE UNHAPPY CUSTOMER! Not for much longer - my contract ends in August - and then I shall seek someone to give me a service where they a) actually keep you connected and b) are willing to listen and do not treat you like an idiot when there is a problem, and actually want to resolve it!

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
