If all you are trying to do is stop certain programs from starting at windows start-up Click Start, then click run, and type "msconfig" (Without the quotation marks). Now click on the Start-up tab, and uncheck the boxes of the programs you don't want to start. Obviously, it is not recommended to uncheck your anti-virus program or your firewall.

i get that. That would be much better. But lets say if i do this msconfig thingy, will it allow me to do 2 separate setting (in msconfig) in each user account....if yes, then bingo, thats what i surely was looking for..." different programs starting in different user account" & another thing...sure i will leave the antivirus and spywares etc, but after uncheking what i do not want will i be able to check them again. cheers mate

No most of the items in msconfig startup are in Local Machine
You would have to go into regedit and remove the programs from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to remove programs from a particular users account, and you would have to be signed on to that users account, to be able to see their particular "run" programs
If you install a program in an administrors account, you are sometimes asked whether you would like to install to all accounts. If you don't get asked this, the program will install to all accounts as it will be putting entries into HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

thats right. some programs do ask if its for single user or something like that. cool. i will 1st sign into any account, then goto regedit and do that HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run .....
this is just unbelievable...i just had a look in the above run folder, just the same programs are there...just 4 of them. i have eby toolbar, spyware guard, and other programs that start but they are just not there....

in that case they will be in HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run which means if you remove it from there, you remove it from all users
You might want to cut and paste the entry from HKLM to a newly created entry in HKCU, if there is a particular entry that you don't want started on all uisers but in a particular user. Not recommended unless you know what you are doing in the registry
