Hiya,
I've spent a few years combing various forums waiting to jump on the next super-bargain/miss-price/freebie. I soon found myself spending a large amount of time sitting refreshing the webpage waiting for the next deal to get posted by some kind sole.
After a year or so i got wise and wrote myself an RSS feed creator which looked at the forums all day and notified me via RSS when something new turned up. Later on I used my RSS feeds to build myself a webpage which would allow me to search through all the bargains at the end of the day as I was running out of time checking the RSS feeds all day!
Then www.bargainspy.co.uk was born for my mates and me to use, then Google visited and its getting general public arriving on the pages. Thought you guys might like it too!
Let me know your thoughts and feature ideas. There's already some good ones like email notifcation i've done, just still testing it internally at the moment.
Cheers,
MC.

Hi,
I like the site, very easy to use. The only thing that bothers me is something to do with the display of the feeds. I'm not sure what exactly, but it just doesn't sit comfortably for me. The ads dotted in the middle may have something to do with it. But, hey I'm no web designer, just mess about really.
The only other point is this debate between links opening in new windows or the existing window. Have you considered the new window option? People may get sucked away from your site after a few clicks on a link, but they could easily flick back and forward if the link opened in a new window. With the onset of tabbed browsing, it could be an opiton.
Great idea, well done.
Mark.

When I started working on Bargainspy I wanted to make it fully XHTML compliant. Pop-up windows, or more the use of target="" is disallowed.
I also read something on www.sitepoint.com about how the 'back' button is the 2nd most used button on a web browser, and if you open a destination in a pop-up window then the back button wont work and it (according to Sitepoint) confuses the user, or some users.
Its been hard to decide. So for now I put that icon next to links which link to external website.

I agree, the back button is a favourite of surfers. Personally I prefer not to have new windows opening left, right and centre.
Cheers.

Do you have a link to this? "target" is just another attribute of <a> so I can't see how it's not XHTML compliant.
Anyway, I like the concept of your site, however, I don't think that I should have to register.

Information about the target attribute is found at http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/2004/xhtml-faq#target Just because something is an attribute doesn't make it okay to use ;-)
Registration allows me to see how many people use the site, and is also part of the upcoming update to provide users with the ability to watch fgor certain keywords like "holiday" or "gamecube" etc. AND provide users with RSS feeds of bargain channels.
Should be good :) I've been using it as testing for the past few months.

We have had many debates about standards in the Web Design forum over the last few weeks and this, again, is I'd suggest a fault in the standards. The de facto way of opening a new window in HTML is to use target="_blank". Personally I think the standards are splitting heirs over HTML "strict" (WTF that is I don't know) and I'd like to see how the "standards" suggest you open a new window in HTML.
As for registration - I click on one of your links, saw you had to register and closed your site. Just one users experience.

Do you offer advertising? I have a PR5 site. Would you provide a link exchange? Thanks
