VSMON is a zone alarm file
Have you recently uninstalled and re-installed Zonealarm?
If so, have a read of this article

I don't like the bit about switching off at the mains. Have you tried pressing and holding the power button? Even this should only be done as a last resort, but it seems you've got no choice. They say it's supposed to take about 4 seconds, but it always seems longer than that to me.

Sometimes my infernal machine fails to stop running after I've performed the procedure so am left with no other option than to stop power at source.

Oh flippin dear !. Two days ago I downloaded the free ZoneAlarm, since then, the flippin computer will not close down when told ie right clic two green tv's>start>shut down>ok........eventually I turn off power. Then when I re-start, along comes the message from Microsoft Scandisc. "Because windows was not properly shut down, one or more of your disc drives may have errors on it. To avoid etc then they check for errors. SO, what next. I see Iain refers to a site for info, but it is weigh above my head. Should I now remove ZoneAlarm ??????????

Fortunately I don't often have problems shutting down, despite having Zone Alarm, and if I do, holding the power button works eventually, then it's back to Scandisk.
I did once try to uninstall Zone Alarm though, and that caused a few problems. I'd just upgraded and decided I preferred the earlier version, but the latest one wouldn't uninstall and the old one wouldn't reinstall. Something to do with "True Vector" something or other. Seems it had made some sort of irreversible changes.
I was lucky. At that time I had a Drive Image backup on another partition, so was able to get myself out of trouble without having to go all the way back to the original setup, but I'd only recently updated the backup, so was stuck with the current version of ZA, which I've since learned to live with.
Regarding your latest point, Blackpool, see if this one finds it's way to your inbox. Perhaps the reason you're getting your own posting back is that you've posted something as an addition to your previous message, so the site thinks the new message is a reply to the earlier one. Hope that makes sense.
