I have been a very dissatisfied dial-up customer of Tiscali for three years. Ever since the start I found frequent disconnections annoying, but recently, at times, they happen every couple of minutes (Its already happened four times since I logged on to this site). Most times I am reconnected but too often I get error messages to say there is no dial tone (wrong) or the remote computer cannot be accessed. On occasions the phone rings during a reconnection and often on these occasions the screen freezes when the connection resumes and I have to switch the computer off and on again. I have complained to the ISP about this (by letter - to their London HQ - but get fobbed off by being told to ring their extortionately expensive help-line). Am I doing Tiscali an injustice or is there something wrong with my laptop's settings? As I say it happens haphazardly (I've not been disconnected now for at least 10 minutes and I can go on for an hour at times).

How much are you paying for your dial-up? Maybe it would be worth you going onto broadband? That way the disconnections would stop?
[read this here] if you suffer from insomnia. This works believe me.

If you don't want or can't get Broadband, maybe you should consider changing your ISP. I can stay on-line for 4 hours before being disconnected, I've been on-line for 2½ hours now. Very occasionally, I get disconnected before the 4 hours is up. I use BT Yahoo! Anytime and, despite what some people say, I've always found it to be very reliable and have had no problems with it. To err is human; to foul things up totally, you need a computer.

The most common cause of connection failures on dial-up is the t/p line quality. First thing to do is get hold of BT, tell them that you are using the line for dial-up surfing and get them to check the line. In particular you should ask them to increase the gain and remove any line sharing that may exist. Have you done any speed tests on your connection? If so, what speeds are you getting?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
