Hi, I'm having problems with IE6, when I write an address into the address bar the page takes several minutes to open, and the progress bar doesn't show but when I paste an address everything is fine, Does anyone know if its possible to delete I.E. and download a new copy from somewhere? Thanks, Alan.

Try repairing it, Start, Run and type in “sfc /scannow” (not the quotes but the space) and have your WinXP CD ready to put in the drive, should it be wanted. If the main Windows set-up screen appears and covers the progress bar, just close it.

Hi again, Tried the repair, and its still the same, but I've since found that if I type an address as www.web user the page takes ages to open, when I type--http:// before the address the page opens instantly and the progress bar shows, any ideas . Alan

I can't think of anything but it's worth checking registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft \Windows\Current Version\URL\DefaultPrefix that the (Default) value in the right pane is http://

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. Either delete the current address in the Address Bar as far as http:// and type in www.whatever, or delete the whole thing and type in http://www.whatever. I believe there is a way to get IE to complete addresses if you just type in www.whatever, but I can't remember what it is. Madeline.

Burr Walnut, I understand what you're saying here, but the registry is a black hole for me ever since I wiped it a couple of years back,I also use Avant browser ocationaly, and this works ok by just typing the www. which makes me think along the lines of what Madeline was refering to, Alan.
