last post posted under wrong subject.... recording
      #173656 - Mon Mar 28 2005 11:30 AM

Sorry I chose the wrong area for my last posting:

Winxp home edition: could someone please run me through the settings/tick boxes on volume properties please, this would be for recording a song onto Audacity (from h/d) to include my daughter singing along to it at the same time as its recording. When she trys to do this with mic boost ticked, her voice is clear but the rocording of the music is not, without mic boost ticked, music sounds great but u can hardly hear her voice (RealtekAC 97 audio)
What are we doing wrong?
Many thanks
Tricia

As you're using Audacity, you will be best to record them separately, like a recording studio would. Record your audio into Audacity the same way you have been so that it is clear. Then change the settings and play the audio from Audacity and record a second track alongside the audio.

I hope that's clear. Post back if you need more help.

Hmmmmmmm re change my settings? So from when you have said, we record the music right onto Audacity and then she has to record her voice afterwards, how do the two recording fit together, sorry but audacity is pretty new to me only having downloaded it a couple days ago, I do have sound recorder though?
Many thanks for your prompt reply
Tricia

In reply to:

Record the music without the mic boost ticked.

Then record the voice with the mic boost ticked.

All you need to do is click the record button when you play the audio.

Once that's done, click stop.

Get ready with the mic, click the record button and the first track will start playing and the next will start recording.

If it's not quite right, click on the little X on the left hand side of the track to delete it and do it again.

Check your settings in the record levels and make sure you select the correct sources for recording for best quality, as shown below. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
