AOL dropping-out
      #173432 - Sun Mar 27 2005 01:57 PM

I have a Dell Dimension desktop PC running with Windows XP - Home + Sophos anti-virus software. Each time I log on to my ISP provider - AOL it keeps dropping out ie signing out automatically - after 30 seconds or a minute. After signing in 6 times or so the it stays signed in. I have done everything that AOL suggest I do to correct the problem still persists. I would be grateful if someone could tell me what the problem might be and how I could cure it?

Many thanks Rick

Hi Rick
You did not say if you were on Dial-up or Broadband also the Version of Aol is Important .Version 9 has a lot of Fixlet programs for resolving most connection issues without you doing a thing, have to download a small program first Kw: Computer Check-up also found on dropdown Menu on Help
In the meantime here are the AOL Troubleshooter guides (for dropped connections) on Dialup and Broadband
Another Dropout favourite to Check is open Internet Explorer Properties (Connection Tab) and see if the "Never dial a connection" setting is selected if you have Broadband? On the other setting it tries hunting for a connection If the old Modem is still installed (You have removed that?)
