I have suddenly lost the ability to click on any boxes to start a search online. My Internet Explorer starts up as normal, I can type in the address bar and also follow links on any web page.
However, I cannot click in any boxes as the cursor will not come up in the box. This prevents me froms searching, writing emails and posts and a variety of other hindrances. (I'm using my friends PC to write this0
I'm running Windows 98SE (though upgrading to XP is iminent), and wondered if this was a a result of a virus or as a result of some other inconsistency with my machine.
Any help at all, will as always be gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

you could try going to settings/control panel add/remove programs, and click to remove IE, this should give you the option to repair IE, click on repair and see if that helps.

Thanks for your response. I tried your suggestion but to no avail. I therefore went back to my previous version of Internet Explorer and it seems to have done the trick for the time bein.
However, whenever I start up my PC it reports a problem with Explorer and brings up a dialogue box. It gives the options for details and brings up the following: iEXPLORER caused a segment not present fault in module PIFMGR.DLL at 0001:00002315. Registers: EAX=0e2f22b3 CS=0e2f EIP=00002315 EFLGS=00000246 EBX=00000e60 SS=21cf ESP=0000c320 EBP=0000c468 ECX=00000014 DS=0e1f ESI=0000bfbb FS=0000 EDX=80710002 ES=16bf EDI=0000ffbf GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 9a de 25 37 1d a3 e8 05 1f 5e 5f cb 90 c8 72 00 Stack dump: 00000000 00000000 0e1e0064 00000e1f 1f800406 00f00e2f 706113ef 30353870 6e6f662e bff7ce00 81848e3c 00f2f380 81805050 81848e38 c17200a0 00f2f380
I also noted on startup a report that my CONFIG.SYS has an error on Line 3.
I havent a clue where to start to solve that mystery, so again all answers would be gratefully appreciated.

The config error is directly related to your IE error
Try doing an SFC
Go to Start | Run Type in SFC /scannow
You may need to restart your computer
