Hi all, not a web question but Ive found this forum to be well helpful in the past.
I have a Samsung Digimax 201 Digital Camera. It has worked fine for the past 2 years but now suddenly wont connect to my computer. When I plug it in it comes up with the 'unknown device' icon in the system tray. It wont detect it and the cd that came with it is of no use. Ive tried to find drivers but have been unsuccessful and going to the samsung website is a joke as they dont seem to do digital cameras anymonre and have not replied to my email.
Can anyone give me some advice please?
Cheers

It must be detecting it if it says 'unknown device'.
Connect it and load Device Manager. Right-click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager.
Are there any yellow ? or !
If so, right click and uninstall. Reboot and connect your camera.

Hmmm. Strange.
Does anything show when you open My Computer, even though it says 'Unknown Device'?
Can you do a system restore?

You won't lose any files doing a system restore, just programs.
I managed to get my mp3 player working by downloading Driver Guide Toolkit for the free trial. It may have been a totally unconnected thing. Plug in your camera and get it to scan for drivers and do any necessary updates. No harm in trying.

Ok I might do a system restore at some point in the future. However I have just noticed that when I double click the unknown device icon in the system tray it pops up with a yellow exclamation mark stating that 'one of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it'.
Now, I guess this would suggest that its is a problem with the camera? If so, is there anything that can be done?
Cheers.
Although, when double clicking on the inknown device in this new window it states that 'no drivers are installed for this device'. I have downloaded drivers in a zip file for my camera but after installing them it states 'please go to the control panel to install and configure system components'.
Any idea what this means or how to ahcieve it?
I am appreciating your help!
Ah and Ive just tested it on my mothers comp and its detecting it fine, so it cant be the camera.

Ok I did a system restore and it still didnt work so I undid the restore as Yahoo messenger had been uninstalled and Id lost my contacts amongst other things. Then tried the camera again after undoing it and it is mysteriously working.....
Very strange, any ideas why this maybe???

^Not at all, but glad you got it sorted
BTW you will never lose your contacts in messenger, logging in with your username and password is all you need, don't matter how many times you restore or uninstall!

Too right. Its still not working properly though, only appearing when it feels like it. Is there anyway I can correct this problem? And how would I install the drivers that I mentioned above?
Cheers.

In Control Panel there should be a camera and scanner wizard. Connect your camera and run it. If it asks for driver location, browse to where you unzipped the files.
