aol 9 disconnecting
      #166236 - Sun Feb 27 2005 07:13 AM

Hi,
I have recently had a system restore and doubled my memory and upgraded to windows XP. I've had a Norton anti-virus and a better firewall added. After re-installing aol 9 (broadband) it has since taken to disconnecting after 3-10 mins online. If I disconnect the modem and plug it back in, it normally comes back up but disconnects again after 3-10. The connection doesn't seem loose but it wasn't the original disk that was used to re-install, as I couldn't find it, it was one the systems guy had. Any ideas?

It could be that your old dial-up set up is still in place and its conflicting
try this...(temporary fix)
Go offline .Open the Control Panel on the Start menu
Find the Internet Options folder Open this now click on the Connections tab
Got that?
In the dialup settings section check that the setting is set in the Never Dial a connection position and press the Apply button (close IE)
Go online, go to Keyword "Computer Checkup" (also listed on Help menu) Download the little program (link on left) this will make the AOL make It fix almost any connection issue with the software. There is also a "Fix it for me" button for other AOL issues in the right bottom side which is handy, big list with lots of connection fault symptoms .Just set it going and you'll see all the adjustments being made.
2 other things 1) Did you download the SP2 patch?(top link on the Help page) Might have already loaded?
2)Have you tried making a "new" Connection up on the Setup button on the AOL signup page?
OH nearly forgot.check that all your modem cables are removed And remove it if it is fitted internally?(good chance of a conflict if its still in situ)
