Search Engine registration
      #162694 - Thu Feb 17 2005 05:45 PM

Hi there,

Can someone please give me any info on Search Engine registration ?

I have submitted my URL to some free registration search engines but they still aren't showing them on a search.

Anyone out there like to lend me a hand.

Cheers.

Scott. :o)_

Hi m8, you can submit all you want but you are not guaranteed a listing, or you can spend serious money and pay yahoo to list your site!
I guess the gene pool could use a little chlorine man!

Hi PhoneMonster,

Thanks for sending me that link. Just one question for ya, How long does it normally take for your site to be picked up by a search ??

I'll check out your site later this weekend and have a scan around it.

Cheers,

Scott.

The best way to get your site listed on search engines is to get lots of other "quality" sites linking to yours.

Get your site listed on directories like dmoz and you'll soon appear on the likes of Google and Yahoo!

Search engines offer no time frame as to when they'll index your site via submittal either via hand or from automated systems. Many people (including myself) think that Google simply ignore all submittals due to sheer weight of numbers.

I think the submittal's are 'added' onto the end of the crawl cycle and it's this that dictates the time frame in which a site could be listed.

It can be anywhere from about 4 weeks to 6 months before a site is listed. Submit your site manually to as many of the large search engines as you can and swap links with other quality web sites that are related in some way to yours.

Hi,
If you were really desperate to submit your site on as many engines as possible you could always try using a program to do it. I only know of one at present, and it isn't freeware. Although quite a few hosting companies give it to you for free in a software bundle when you sign up. Anyway the program is calle Hello Engines http://www.hello-engines.com/

Sites submitted via automated programs are given even lower priority than sites submitted by hand.
