Does my Site Need a major overhaul?
      #159357 - Tue Feb 08 2005 10:55 PM

http://www.swindontownfc.tk
Does this site need a complete overhaul if i want it to look proffessional?

And if so, as i think i should now give up on writing the code myself what software do you recommend? (I have never used software to create a site before) Or do you recommend i continue writing the code?

And if not, any site improvements you would suggest?

it doesnt need a major overhaul. you have the basic structure, just need to orginishe the information, ie welcome page first with brief club history the make link to latest results.
and perhaps some graphics for the button with the alt code so if it dont load people know what the link is.

In reply to:

<html><head><title>Swindon Fan Site</title></head>
<body><center><iframe src="http://www.freewebs.com/swindontfc/king.htm" width="800" height="550"></body></html>

try not to use iframes as this can take longer to load. normal frames where only 1 pannel changes are great, for example of the frames im talking about go to http://www.ysgolgyfunystalyfera.com and click english site.

I agree the site layout is excellent, it just needs an introductory page. And you could do with keeping it all n one site and not swapping between your own site then moving over to a freewebs sit in order to use their features. For example on the king in or out page.

What do you mean by an introductory page?
One with my current layout, or just an enter page?

Hi,

as per the other posts, I wouldn't say you need a complete redesign, but the thing that struck me on looking at the homepage was that the layout reminds me very much of the photo at the top - as in, a bit red, green, and empty!

Sorry if that sounds rude...

But from a usability point of view, the red background on your navigation bar on the left hand side doesn't really work with the green links. On a firefox browser the links seem almost to glow.

If I lived in Swindon and came across the site, I don't think I'd hang around long as there doesn't seem to be a lot to draw the visitor in, or to keep them on the site. You've clearly put a lot of effort into keeping it up to date, but it might be worth trying to make the layout a bit more "interesting" and less plain.

Obviously getting a balance between plain and cheesy is not that simple...

When the others say that you could do with an intro page, I think they mean that you just launch straight into match reports, instead of having a range of info on the homepage, such as info about the site, about you, what the site's for, or some basic intros about what each section of the site is about.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a lot of point in having three of the links from the left hand link bar on the top in the grey bar - I find that confusing.

Also seems confusing that this page is in an iframe:

http://k.1asphost.com/forumdirectory/king.htm

while none of the others are.

Also seems a bit inconsistent having so many different external links - is there any way the forum or fantasy football content could be tied in more with your main site design?

Thanks

Jim

I wil get a picture for the banner at the game tommorow. But this is an idea for the home page, i'm not exactly sure if its ok. The size of the picture is 83kb.

And i think instead of the links in the grey bar at the top i will have the links to Fantasy Football and Swindon Forum and "External Links" written by it.
