Importing Address Book
      #15667 - Sat Oct 11 2003 11:09 AM

Just formatted my comp , reinstalled OE5 , then dowloaded OE6 and got it running . Imported Messages & folders ok , but it wont let me import Address book , I have done File / Import /Address book . Is says " an error occured during the import process, it could not be imported" the file is Default.wab . I have tried importing an old version of my address book and it wont do that either . Any ideas ?

are you using the same version of internet explorer that you were before you formatted.

as i think you need to have the same version on that you did before otherwise it wont import

If you exported it as a CSV file you will have to Import, Other Address Book.

Thanks , but the file I have on disc is ".wab " which I'm sure is right . How do I re-install OE5 over the top of OE6 ? - to see if it will import ? - even though I did save the addreess book from an OE6 programme ?

try overwriting the default wab with your copy

Find the wab file by doing a search (Start | Search | For Files and Folders
Type in *.wab

Now make a copy of your copy
Rename the copy to the same name as the default wab for OE6
then move it to the location of the default wab It should ask you if you want to overwrite, Click Yes

Colin

I don't think you need to reinstall IE. Something is corrupted somewhere. Examine your copy of the *.wab and the default to see if one or other is corrupted.

If one is I would use the good one and import it.

Or as quick-fingered Iain has suggested copy it.

Success - BUT ! ..... My old Address book is in the location of the new one but still couldnt open it , I checked the properties of the WAB folder and unchecked the "Read only " box , I can now access the Address book . But why did the proccess of saving my old WAB book to disc allow this "Read Only" box to be ticked ? Many thanks for your help ........Colin.
