Hi,
I have designed and created this website for myself really. At the moment it is just stuff on me, but I do hope to develop the teacher section in due course.
Just hoping some people might have some suggestions of any kind?
The URL is below.
Regards,
Mark.

Well, I'm not sure about the navigation.
You seem to have used frames - so the menu on the homepage is on the left hand side. However, on following any of the links that main menu on the left is lost, so the user can't navigate around very easily.
On this page: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.evetts/mark's_homepage_00000d.htm you need to change this:
<A class=s1 HREF="mark's_homepage_000009.htm">Web Links</A>
to this:
<A class=s1 HREF="mark's_homepage_000009.htm" target="Framecef6d0">Web Links</A>
That way the links from your links window will open in the right hand window,
Overall the design seems a bit plain, and the layout feels a bit messy in places. For example, on this page: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.evetts/mark's_homepage_000009.htm there seem to be large gaps at the top and bottom.
Anyway, those are some initial thoughts.
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,
Thanks for taking the time to have a look and post your comments.
I agree about the navigation issue, I guess it was because I'm still learning and just haven't quite got everything as I would like. However, I shall ensure that this is at the top of the list.
The reason for some of the large gaps is because I dislike the print placed at the bottom of every page about the fact that it is a free editor being used. However, I can see that this probably does not bother other viewers so have removed some of the unecessary gaps. I'm also planning to get the full edition and these will go then anyway.
You said that the design seems plain. I am trying to go for the simple look, I hate clutter. Do you have any suggestions on possible ways to increase the stimulation without the clutter?
Many thanks,
Mark.
P.S. other comments welcome from anyone.

Hi,
I have updated the navigation, so would appreciate what people think of getting around the website.
Many thanks,
Mark.

Hi Best try to get all my spellings correct! Site is ok if somewhat narrow, if you have travelled a lot, what about some great and bad things that you encountered, things that perhaps are not in the brochures (white water rafting in Pigeon Forge and walking in the mountains is great for instance).
The teaching links will be of interest to some, but why not liven it up a bit with some discussion topics? I would like to know with so many holidays and some of the shortest hours for the pay in any industry, why teachers have such a high casual sickness record? (Please don't say its stress). I think its because they can! Just an idea for getting people to visit your site

Hi,
I'm certainly not going to be drawn into a debate as to the reasons why teacher sickness is on the increase, I have no doubt that you have the capacity to research the evidence yourself. However, I will say that teacher sickness is still below the average of all public sector workers and the only reason people take offence to teachers being sick is the fact that they have holidays. I am just starting out in the teaching profession, currently doing my training, but when on placement I see teachers in daily at 7:30-8:00 and not leaving until 6:00. The Headmaster was in at 6:30 and left at 9:30/10 at night. Anyone who thinks that teaching hours are the same as school hours are in no position to make judgement as they are clearly ignorant of the facts.
All I have to say to anyone is that unless they are willing to put themselves in the role that teachers undertake the they are not in a position to criticise, all people see are the holidays and choose to ignore the rest. I certainly do not criticise about the fact that office workers can sit at a desk all day, chatting to colleagues, making coffee, getting a full hour off for lunch, not taking work home etc. I know this as I have worked in various offices for various companies. The reason why I do not criticise is because whilst teachers don't get these perks they do get holidays. My father earns a 6 figure salary in his office based job, but has a considerable amount of stress/pressure to warrant the pay. Teachers recieve a third of his salary, but are responding to the same level of pressure.
Anyway, I have rambled enough, thanks for the comments on the website.
Regards,
Mark.

Hi,
well, I'm not sure about how to get the balance between having an uncluttered site and one that isn't too plain.
I generally prefer to lay things out in an uncluttered way, as per something like this or another site I did here is also pretty plain...
Anyway, it's all a matter of opinion isn't it. Good luck with the site and the teaching. I like the site updates - navigation is fine now.
