Power Scan
      #14464 - Tue Oct 07 2003 10:05 PM

Help!

I have this very very annoying pop up that appears each time i log onto my pc. Its a box inviting me to scan my pc for unknown porn. The programme is called power scan.

there is an 'uninstall' button on the box also, but when i click it it is to download an .exe file called ?????unistall.exe

I don't wanna open any .exe files thankyou very much!!!

I looked on the c drive, and found it listed under 'documents and settings/james cadman [my son]. I sent it on its way to the recyle bin which i then emptied.

But it still keeps appearing.

I did a search on google and it came up with wwwpower-scan.com which is a one page site, only inviting you to download it. My son insists he did not download it [he's a computer whizz in alot of ways and wouldn't download by accident]. He had been trying to find a particular ring tone online at the time this first appeared.

Any ideas how to remove it? I think it must be hiding somewhere else, but i can't find it to delete it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Regards,

Deb

Sounds like another one of these 'drive by downloads'. First thing to try is spybot. Hopefully this will rid you of the program. If not post back, and we can try something else. Good luck.

Strangely enough, Powerscan seems to have disappeared! However, i downloaded spybot anyway and ran a scan. It found 11 pages [i printed them off] of spyware thingies on my pc.

I got rid of them.

Funily enough, my browsing seems to have speeded up since. Is this because i no longer have these spywere things?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

basically the way i look at it is these spyware are accessing the net the same time as you and eating up your bandwidth, which will slow you down. also d/load and run adaware it will pick up ones that spybot missed.
