Wanadoo wireless Broadband
      #137810 - Thu Dec 09 2004 07:59 PM

Hi folks
query from a technophobe - purchased Linksys Router and two PCI adaptors only to find out that Wanadoo modem is incompatible with everything except guess what, yep Wanadoo Wireless. Modem is a Thompson with USB connection to PC and does not have a Cat5 Ethernet connection, has something unique to them. Problem is I don't want Wanadoo's stuff I want to use the Linksys stuff. Wanadoo won't supply a compatible modem and are holding me to a 12 month contract.

Are they breaking competition rules? Can I fit my own modem and keep Wanadoo as an ISP? Is there another way?

Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Hugh

This question might be better of being posted in the networking forum. Having said that, it was posted a few weeks ago, and I don't recall there being a solution.

If it's true that the Wanadoo service only works with certain products, then I think that it's terrible, but I doubt that it's breaking any competion rules, since there's plenty of competion in the market place.

I'm no expert, but I'm surprised that an ISP's servers can tell the difference between the connection from a stand-alone PC, the connection from a PC running Internet Connection Sharing, and a router.

When I was unfortunate enough to have an account with BT Openworld, it claimed that it wouldn't support connections through routers. What it actually meant was what it said - it wouldn't help me if I needed any help, but it didn't stop me going ahead and doing it myself.

Having bought my brother a LinkSys wireless router to go with his Wanadoo broadband connection, I'd like to know whether anybody has managed to get things working. He hasn't tried his own connection yet, because I'm still fixing his PC.

Thanks Rob
haven't solved it yet, asked Wanadoo for their complaints procedure but as yet not received it. When I get this sorted I'll let you know. Certainly interested to hear how you get on with your brothers kit.
Cheers
Hugh

Have a look amongst this lot!

Try the links on the left hand-side to expand the full terms of use.

Maybe something there to use in your favour.

Best of luck.
