Aol "update" in News
      #130692 - Thu Nov 18 2004 07:42 PM

Saw this on Google news:
http://www.betanews.com/article/AOL_to_Release_90_Security_Edition/1100755385
Not read the fine print but it "seems" to be an update codename:"Strauss"
Does not say if it's Broadband only? My impression is I'll stick to AOL 9 (with all the current security) which works OK
If it is directed at all users then the Dial-up users will get the same features as us Broadband users with the checkup software plus Macafee Personal Firewall thrown in (That is brilliant if they are doing that?)
They seem to be overlooking the SP2 compatability issues with announcing this update?
I do not know if this is coming across the Pond ?(you have read about AOL dropping Broadband in North America) Perhaps this is offered as a "sticking plaster " to anybody who has to downgrade to dialup as a result of AOLs decision, and wants to stick with AOL?
In case you are wondering? The AP in my name is Answerpool.com (see my profile)

BTYahoo is doing something similar, they now offer a Spyware program to go with Spam Filter, Popup Blocker, Parent/Child Control, Anti Virus is available at the moment for a price I believe. Probably AOL is keeping pace.

Did you know that 40%
of AOL users don't have computers.

Just to clarify matters read this Thanks.
I found this posting:
http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=20082&category=main
The Code "Strauss" refers to the Cutdown Version of AOL (AOL 9.0 Optimized) which will become 'AOL 9.0 LE' this will be released for the North American Market
It will work on UK machines if you can get a copy from the States?
I have been running an American version of 9.0 Optimized before the UK V 9.0 was on general release.
Nothing about a UK release date on this post
I do know the other codename "Tahiti"(labelled AOL 9.0 SE), is coming here but this is an upgrade to the Broadband OS They say (on that link) there is an upgrade link on the US site(in "Downloads"). I don't think it'll work (Uk members can only access part of the Us content) So we'll have to wait for the UK CD...
Ps Can anybody find the version Number for the Upgrade?
PPS They could schedule it as an Auto upgrade yet?

LOL, jetpress! That's a good site.
Madeline.
