I am using Nero to burn pictures onto cd,although I am new to the programme,I have grasped the basics, but having burnt the pictures on,re-inserted the disc,I cant find the pictures. Also,is it possible to add to a disc if it is only partially full? Are there any freely available alternatives to Nero that are any good?

Take your time mattyd, persevere with Nero it's as good as you'll get if not better. To see your pictures, with XP normally when disc is reinserted a box appears asking you to choose what you want to do, open files, print files etc.
If this not happening then go to 'My Computer'>, right click on drive containing disc>from menu choose Open> this will show you contents of disc.
To add files to a CD at intervals you first must choose 'Multisession' this sets up the process for next time when you then choose 'Continue Multisession'. Nero will recognise the earlier session on the disc and you then drag and drop to existing files.
The disc you have just used will be closed and nothing further can be added. You'll soon pick it up Nero is quite friendly to us newbies. Try copying your pics via Nero Express, this 'extra' to the main program I found easier to use for multisessions before learning a bit more about the main program. You'll find Express listed>Start>All Programs> Ahead Nero>Nero Express.
Hope this has helped you.

I may have confused the issue here, I assumed you were talking photographs, not video. Apologies if I was wrong.
If you are trying to create a VCD, then that's totally different, there's a lot more to it than just copying some photographs to CD.
We'll try to help if you would give some more detail as to what you wish to do.

Hi I recently burnt some video to a CD using Nero and when I put the disc into my PC to view I had the same as you. In order to view whats on the disc you need to insert the disc, wait for the windows dialogue box to come up and then just click the play option. This opens windows media player and the video will play. The disc will also play on most DVD players - I burnt our holiday video and sent copies to family members and they all reported back that it played lovely in their DVD players. Not sure if it's the same with photos - I usually use Roxio to transfer photos to disc. Hope this helps.

Sorry & thank you. I was trying to copy photographs. But the dialogue box on Nero gives you the option of burning Video/Pictures.But when you click on this it only gives you the option of copying Video cd or Super Video cd I printed off the instructions, followed them closely & cant view anything. A friend suggested burning pictures as data files, would this be any easier? I'm a bit of a novice, but I can usually negotiate myself round software{I de-virused a couple of mates machines from the Blast virus with advice I read here},But this is doing my head in! I've burnt a couple of music cd's {ironically enough using Real Player}. But this Nero has confused me.

That's correct mattyd, treat your photos as data files. Assuming you have them stored in 'My Pictures', open Nero> New Compilation>along top of dialogue box 'Multisession' click on that>tick box 'Start Multisession>At right hand side click on 'New'> this opens all your folders and files on right hand side>on left will be a blank box> look for your photo folder i.e. My Pictures> either open, drag and drop each photo title into blank box or better, drag and drop the folder.
When you've completed that, go to toolbar icons, choose 'Write CD Dialog' icon and another box opens, choose your speed of writing and click 'Write'.
One useful tip, before any of this be sure you have named your folder or individual photos to something identifiable, 'holiday 2002' or what ever. Simple reason, once on CD you can't rename each file.
Finally, is your Operating System XP? if so there is a another way of doing things and it's relatively easy. I'm talking about Movie Maker 2 but I don't want to confuse things further than I have done.
Hope this has helped.

Now you've got me confused, Power DVD? I thought that only played DVD or VCD's. Unless you have created a VCD after all from your collection of photos.
Anyway, as long as you are happier now, that's the main thing.
