removing dialer
      #12352 - Sat Sep 27 2003 04:50 AM

Hi, Hope this is in the right place as it is my first post.
I have recently changed from freeserve to ntlworld, I would like to remove the automatic dialer (freeserve conection kit) that I installed for the former. When I asked for advice I was told I could just delete the dialer from the system tray!!
Any help appreciated including editing the registry, as long as it is explained in words of one syllable including how to back-up and restore this if neccesary. I am a novice, older, computer user who is willing to learn.

Rather than having you go into the registry, we'll make it easier for you by using Hijack this

Please go to this site, and download 'Hijack This!'.

Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

open that file
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it
Come back to Web User, Right Click and paste its contents here

Putasolutions is the Guru, Blue Weeder. What he doesn't know isn't worth knowing, so I'd reccomend that you take his advice.

That said, I wouldn't have immediately thought in terms of spyware and browser hijacks as it's a legitimate ISP you're trying to get rid of.

I'd have started by going into Internet Options, clicking on the Connections tab and deleting the unwanted connection from there.

Do the Hijack This! thing anyway though, even if you've solved your problem. There's a lot of little nasties out there, and you want to be sure you haven't picked any up.

There is intelligent life on Earth, but I'm only visiting.
