Is it right that having preview pane open can allow viruses in even though they should have been removed by your AV software? I leave mine open as extra security so that I can see messages and delete from there to avoid opening the Email.

Yes unfortunately the latest generation of viri, such as Klez, can be contracted by previewing through the Preview Pane. It is best turned off

Arandora, you could try one of the POP3 e-mail programs like PocoMail (www.pocomail.com) or Courier (www.rosecitysoftware.com) which claim to be imune to viruses and worms.
