Hello,
Could anyone please tell me if AdaWare SE/Spybot S&D/SpywareBlaster will help to stop advertising 'popups'.
I have all of these programmes and I only have the rare popup.
The reason that I am asking is that a friend of mine gets lots of 'popups' and he does not have any of these programmes. He is going to let me install the above but I wanted to know if I need to install a popup blocker as well. It would have to be a free programme, as he is not able to afford to pay.
Thanks

No, but if you use Firefox as your web browser this has the option to block pop ups

You're no good for me I don't need nobody, don't need no one that's no good for me!

You could try doing a search for pop-up blockers, there are some good, free ones available. Madeline.

Install the Google Toolbar. It includes a pop-up stopper. Not many get past it.

Too many pop-ups could indicate a malware infection, so as well as installing, updating and running Ad Aware and Spybot, it's worth posting a HJT log, just to be sure, and then installing Panicware's Pop-Up Stopper, as linked to via page 6 of "Barney's Place". I'd also suggest installing Clean Temp (page 4) to be sure there isn't something nasty lurking in the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
Everything I link to is free, so have a wander round the site and help yourself to anything you need.
Links to a wide range of useful and essential freeware all in one place.

Thank you for your help. Will inform my friend and try to persuade him to use these programmes.
Barney, when I click on the links I get the download dialogue box, Is there any way that my friend can see details of the programme before he downloads. as I think he would be more likely to use the programme if he had some information on it and how it works before downloading.
Thanks

Your continued hard sell of the Firefox browser is becoming a pain now.
It is your opinion that the browser performs as well as it does, and myself as well as others would perhaps wish you would keep your opinions to your self.
By all means praise the firefox package, I'm sure it is as good as you suggest, but please don't throw it down our throats and in particular when a poster has a problem, don't blame his or her browser choice to being the cause of their problem without offering advice to a reasonable fix without the drastic actions of replacing their present browser as you suggest. That's the easy way out!
Always ask the right question, to the right person, and always get the right answer.

Sorry but it is not my problem you are out dated and see installing a free piece of software as a drastic action.
If I was to keep my opinions to myself then you maybe you can help solve issues or give tips to the users I help rather then sit at your pc getting worked up over what I post.
I am not here to watch what I say just because a few users get their knickers in a twist, that's not my problem.
I always suggest the best software and in the this case Firefox is the best browser and the built in pop up stopper is second to none and you will also find I am not the only poster who mentioned firefox in this thread.
