Digital tv
      #118538 - Sat Oct 16 2004 04:19 PM

I want to get digital tv without subscribing to cable/sky but am confused. Do I need a new tv (got a 10 yr old sony)? a new ariel? would that freeview box be the solution? Any advice about these issues or sites relating to these issues would be much appreciated.

Digital tv can be accessed by buying a set top box for £50 approx., same aerial* no subscription. If you were buying new you could purchase a digitally integrated tv that dispenses the need for a set top box. Full explanation here

Hold on blueboy just look at the selection you get on freeview!
What a pile of poo it looks , UKTV history is the only channel there worth looking at and i think thats only a part time channel too,im sure you can upgrade to more interesting channels but it will cost you and may be no cheaper or better than you allready have.
There are some new digiboxes coming out within a few months apparently and they`ll be much better value for money so my mate tells me ."he owns a big tv/satellite shop in east london.

freeview is good, if you get sky/ntl/telewest would you watch the channels everyday, there is 100+ channels on sky/ntl/telewest so its impossible to watch them all or there are some channels you wouldnt watch and you are paying for channels you wont watch, a pay as you watch service would be better
