My pc's been freezing on startup, and I can't figure out what the problem is. When it happens, it's usually at the stage where I get asked for the windows password, enter it, press return, and there's nothing anymore, and I can't do anything but turn it off manually. I've defragmented, scanned with norton 2004, adaware, spybot, nothing... Only thing I can think of is that I upgraded from norton 2003 to 2004 recently, but I've not noticed anything strange caused by it. Any ideas?

Try this first
Disconnect from the Internet the re-boot in safe mode go to Start go to run type in msconfig and select the start-up button and first see if you can ucheck anything thats not important software wise Or what icon are showing down by the clock when you boot up in normal mode
what O/S do you have is it Windows ME...? I have the scandisk option set sometimes you get some benefit from it sometimes it gets in the way
Spybot too has the option to look at what starts-up with Windows let me know how you get on
Try this www.windowsstartup.com/

Thanks, stopped a few unnecessary items from loading at startup, restarted a couple of times and no trouble so far, hopefully this will have solved it
