Retrieiving emails and favourites
      #11774 - Wed Sep 24 2003 08:21 AM

I recently had to do a system restore due to blaster damage but was able to copy most files and folders into a particion on my hard drive I would like to copy my address book and rules and isf possible messages across into the re-installed Outlook express 6 and also my favourites into Interenet explorer. Is this possible and if so which files do I need to move across?

cheers

Rob

I'm not too well up on the finer points of e-mail software. I send and receive. I set rules. That's about it.

That said, I'd imagine you'd have an "import" option, for your address book if nothing else.

There is intelligent life on Earth, but I'm only visiting.

Your Outlook Express Mail Folders are stored with a file name extension of *.dbx. Use the Find or Search function to identify the location and then use the OE6 Import routine. Your Address book is stored with a .wab extension. Use much the same procedure to locate and import your address book. You can also Import your favorites in IE6 by clicking on File, Import and follow the Wizard.
Having said that, I would be very wary about importing files from a partition that may still be infected with a virus. If you are absolutely sure that the partition is clean then all well and good. I would make sure that your AV software has got the latest Virus Definitions on board before proceeding with the imports.
