Using XP Pro, have dowloaded and installed SP2 (having made back up). Now have slight issues; I use web based email (Openmail) and although still there I cannot access my online contacts. When trying to connect to links from within received emails, I gett either "done with errors on page" or done, and nothing appears. Prior to SP2 I never had too many problems with Popups, and now getting them more often. All of these problems are very likely down to security settings, where and how do I change. Also SP2 I believe loads firewall in on status, how do I check? Many thanks Ron

You can turn on the pop-up stopper in IE by going to Tools>Pop-up Blocker. In the settings, you can type in the URL of any site where you want pop-ups to be allowed. If you've got a 3rd party firewall, it's best to turn off the XP firewall as it won't be as good and running 2 firewalls can cause conflicts. Go to Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall and turn it off, then, if your firewall is not recognised, go to the Security Center by the same route and click Recommendations under the Firewall part and put a tick in the box "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself". Madeline.
To err is human; to foul things up totally, you need a computer.

I have a broadband router (with its own firewall) connecting my home network to the Internet, so I have put a tick in the box "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself" in the XP Security Centre Firewall settings, but it does not remember these settings after I re-boot. Any ideas on how to get it to remember?
Thanks,
Steve.

I'm not sure if the router firewall will be recognised by the XP security centre, as it is "outside" the system so to speak. This maybe why it's not remembering the settings as it cant find the firewall.
I would recommend an "internal" firewall other than the XP firewall, to complement your router firewall.
