Those of you who are with Gio have probably just been through the same palave I have, with them disconnecting users and asking for a sixty quid reconnection fee. I declined their offer, and asked for the MAC ID of my connection, so I could go elsewhere. As yet (2 weeks on) I still have no info from them and likely no chance of getting it.
Has anyone else migrated from one ISP to another? (I want to migrate, since I won't need to pay another activation charge to my new ISP of choice!)

Hi richuu. I have had the same problems with Gio Internet - see the recent emails elsewhere on this site. Like many people, I am not too up on this Internet malarky (which is why I think companies like Gio Internet can get away with what they do). From what I can gather, when you paid the connection fee, part of this cost was so that you would have a MAC ID. So, in effect, you have paid for this MAC ID, it is your property and, as such, you are entitled to it! It's like buying a house but the estate agent preventing you from entering it. Gio Internet don't want you to have it because this would then encourage you to go to a different ISP who would then charge far less to be reconnected as you already have a MAC ID.
We really need someone who has good internet skills to set up a Gio Internet forum so that users could vent their anger (and of course give positive messages!!!). Perhaps then Gio Internet would have to provide a reasonable level of service (although I think Gio Internet would more likely close down and reinvent themselves under a different guise).

Hi rsgron. Sorry to hear you have problems too. My understanding is that, when you paid your connection fee, part of that payment was to go towards getting a MAC so it belongs to you and you are entitled to have it. They cannot refuse to give it to you.
I might be wrong but I think you should take this further.
Good luck.
Nev.

I had a 24/7 account with gio for 7.99 for 2 years, at first it was brilliant, then last june july I couldn't get in, sometimes for weeks. so I cancelled, and they told me that the payments from my visa card would cease. I cancelled in august, in sept they took 7.99 in sept on 11th 12.63 on the 12th 12.63 twice so I asked the bank to investigate, in the meanwhile I tried to close my Worldpay future pay agreement. I have just found out this was done by the merchant on the 13th sept. so i am free of Gio
So close your future pay account at World pay if you can't stop paymments being taken any other way.

It seems that Gio Internet and Activeware are linked companies, try doing a search on them and you will find some very alarming information. They are linked to Hauka.
It would appear that they are just taking money from their customers accounts without authority.
Contact WorlPay urgently, they put through all of their transactions.

Hi My GioInternet email has suddenly stopped working (from Fri 29 Oct). I've had a broadband account with them for about 18 months without any previous problems.
Having read the above posts I'm pretty worried - especially if they are reluctant to give out MAC IDs.

My email is now up and running again as of yesterday, 3 Oct. Gio updated their service status page on 2 Oct saying that they were upgrading the POP3 server and that it would be back online within 48 hours (which to be fair, it was.) I just wish they had informed users beforehand rather than after the event!

Regardless of Gio Internets problems / technical issues etc - Every (With exceptions) ADSL account (Excluding NTL or other ISPs who have their own infrastructure i.e Not BT's telephone lines) has a unique MAC ID/Code, any ISP supplying ADSL services should really issue this on request. You can give this MAC code to the new ISP of your choice and they can submit a migration request which should go through in around 7 working days without obstruction or your broadband going down apart from when you have to change your username. MAC codes is a system recently introduced to speed up migrations between ISP's.
If you can't contact Gio / respective ISP your going to have a problem but thought this may help!

Hi - I'm sending regular emails to both support@F1Internet.com and to mail@Netservicesplc.com asking for contact details and my MAC number ... obviously no replies have been forthcoming :-(
Why they are being so obstructive I am not sure, it is not engendering any support for either company and if they don't co-operate then the good will they may have had (I would have stayed if they were contactable) goes straight out of the window. At the end of the day the only thing they will have achieved is to inconvenience many people and lose both good will and potential customers.
Looking about for a new ISP I reckon Wanadoo (Freeserve as was) are possibly the best option as they are offering free connection and a free modem plus 1 mbps speeds and 6 mb of bandwidth per month for only £22.99 a month.
If F1 / Netservices plc won't supply the MAC numbers then it appears that we will need to get the broadband connection cleared from the BT line and start over again - not the easiest way about doing things but, apparently, possible (any advice about how to go along this route would be very much appreciated).

I finished with Gio in June 2003. I sent my cancellation, as instructed, by recorded post. I still have the receipt. I cancelled my payments via Worldpay. Today, 22nd December 2004, I get a letter from debt collectors, asking for two months payment. What is going on? I do not think I am the only one. The debt firm is Wescot.

They finished with me no more payments taken from my credit card and no service. Even the website at the time was down. I guess they have been in trouble because prior to this they kept sending me emails asking for payment in advance for 12 month contracts. Get the money in and bobs your uncle. Any way Wescott Debt Collectors letter arrives today asking for money. Rang them up said that Gio had not followed up on situation I have to prove that I paid. Explained that they stopped taken payments not me and provided no service and I did not use them as moved to a decent company 'Pipex' Woman said dunno you have to prove it. I say Ofcom here we come lets sort these ****ards out quickly. Looking at other sites tonight I think they will go under and its probably the CVA advisor or Liquidator thats pulling the strings. Its a tough old world out there at the moment!

Hi I have just come off the telephone to Ofcom to seek advice about the wescot/ gio situation. They are advising everyone who rings up to seek legal advice from the citizens advice. I will and i'm thinking we may all need to keep in touch as together we are stronger than as individuals. Whats' everyone else's thoughts on this?

A Demand for £30 arrived in thr post this morning. From Gio Internet and Westcot Credit Services Ltd. - (Dedt. Collectors) I never heard of Gio Internet, but I used to be with Activeware. So I searched Google and I think the two are connected. The problem that was with Activeware was stupid really. It was good for the first three months but then they stoped taking the monthly debit from my account. I rang and got a scottish girl. She said it was my Debit Card number that was wrong. There's 18 digit's on my Bank of Ireland switch card, she said there should only be 16 digit's. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, my card has been used lots of times to purchase items on the internet with out any problems. She was so thick or what ever computer program was in front of her was. I left that day, July 04. I'm now with FireflyUK (150 amonth dail-up for £13.99 & good service) Now at christmas I get this demand from the Scottish SCAMERS. Someting needs to be done about them (I read a report Gio is £220,000 in debt)

Had a letter from WESCOT, this morning. (sorry if this has been posted before )
Due to a significant number of enquires regarding the previous management of these accounts, we thought it appropriate to write to you again, and advise that we have now returned all Gio Internet accounts back to our clients and Wescot is no longer acting in respect of this matter. N Conway Operations Director
I hope this letter is sent to everybody, with problems arising from Gio Internet’s financial matters !!!!!!
