Scanning into Word

Hi could someone please help when I try to scan a sheet of text into Microsoft Word but the layout is all different and many words are not recognized like a web address, is there anyway to make a simple scan like for like, Thanks

I imagine your scanner is trying to use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to intepret what it sees. If you simply want a copy of the page use the B&W photograph option. You won't be able to edit the document, it will be, in effect, a photocopy of the original.

If you really want to scan the document in so that it can be edited like a normal Word document you will need to buy a more powerful piece of OCR software. OCR relies on a database to interpret what it sees. This database will hold example fonts and a dictionary. The bigger the database, the better the interpretation. As an example, Royal Mail use OCR software that scans 40,000 letters an hour and can read 98% of everything it sees. You wouldn't want one of them as they cost a few bob! Have a look round Google using OCR Software as a search criteria.
