can anyone please help me. my OS is xp pro. i have a riva tnt ultra graphics card amd athlon 1800+ and a K7S5A chip. the system was built approx 3 years ago.
when i play games such as nhl 2002 or first person shooter games about 2-3 mins into the game the screen freezes at that point. i can see a still picture of the game and the sound at that point freezes and blurs from my speakers. i can not exit the game and have to switch off at the tower. when i reboot ,the system performs fine but if i play a game the freezing occurs. this has only been happening the lasts couple of months. sometimes i can go a whole 30 minutes without it freezing. i have the latest drivers for the graphics card. Is there any more info you need?? please help

It does sound like your virtual memory wants a reset? or the "quota" on the harddrive has been exceeded This is either a) a near full hard drive? Your game is eating into the cache causing a stop:Cure delete old programs ,and Defrag Games nowadays need a lot of extra space to run There is a small chance the Permissions on the Hard drive are limiting the space. Right Click My Computer C:drive>properties> quota tab (on right) and see if the top tick box is unticked? otherwise the restriction can come into play? and you get "stops" galore If this is unticked then I'd do some uninstalling to regain the space then do a Defrag(find under the tools tab) Should run your games Ok from now on ? Tip: Before Defragging click the Analyze button this will determine if there is a need for this and show on a diagram how things are distributed inside that drive also Capacity details In case you are wondering? The AP in my name is Answerpool.com (see my profile)
I have looked at the tick box in quota tab. the box is unticked. i defraged last week and at least once a month on a regular basis. i have 512 memory stick and a 80GB hard drive with 35 gb of free space. Defrag analysis says i do not need to defrag at this time and that i have 46% free space on hard drive. I have never updated the motherboard since it was installed approx 2 years ago. Ant ideas???
