Been with Wannadont Broadband since March this year. No probs there; moved address mid-July, paid a 'change of address' fee of £25 and since then nothing. I have continued to pay the £27.99 a month subscription fee for no service. I have emailed and phoned them to find out when broadband will be activated at my address but can't get an answer.
I'm locked into a 12 month contract as they originally supplied the modem free, but for the past 6/7 weeks I've been using dial-up pay-as-you-go (different ISP) Should wanadoo have offered me basic dial-up in the interim?; should I go to a different ISP and tell wanadoo to stuff it? A fresh perspective would be welcome.

I'm sure you'll hear from them if you cancel your Direct Debit, which is what I would do. That should make them sit up and listen to you then.
If they feel you don't deserve a service, then they don't deserve payment.
It makes me so angry that some ISPs take their customers for granted and to ignore your phone calls and e-mails is disgusting.

Silly question, but I assume BB is available at your new address. Did you check before moving?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Just a word of caution, be careful about cancelling DD, should they decide to take further action it may affect your credit rating.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did check that wanadoo could provide to the new phone number before paying a change of address fee, but have heard nowt since. I'll try to speak with someone this evening - I don't really want all the hassle all changing ISP's but how long do I give them. 2 months, 3 months . . . ?

I'd have thought that when you moved home your Account moved with you(if you're still paying?) the charge is against the person NOT the Address. Change of address fee,I'd seek legal advice on this. Can understand if the modem had to stay for some reason at your old address(Padlocked to the wall and it's the size of a fridge!)and you need another BB modem from your ISP .Ok to levy a charge in those circumstances. But,you can fit the whole setup in a shoebox! Only takes seconds for the person at the Call centre to change the billing details (I know AOL do this for nothing) PS With NO service and you are still paying I'd have thought they have given you some form of credit note? And AS far as I know NO ISP will supply a dial-up modem. Buy one (15-20 pounds)and tell them your intention of using the Dialup version from your new address need their connection setup CD .
In case you are wondering? The AP in my name is Answerpool.com (see my profile)

Ok in this situation you may use your username and password from the BB account for a NT (No Ties (Pay as you go)) account which you should have been advised, unless you wanted to take an AT account.

Sorted at last. After a 32 minute phone call, I found out that Wanadont had done nothing since my initial call to transfer my BB connection to the new address. What I was able to do was cancel my existing contract, set a new one up for another 12 months (yeah, I had some reservations about this part) for £17.99 a month (£10 less than what I was paying) and twice the browsing speed at 1mbps. I'm only allowed to download 2gb a month, but that sounds more than enough for me. In addition, I asked and got the 1st month free on the basis that I had paid them in August for no connection.

You said that you were paying £27:99 so i hope you got a full refund and the first month free . I was going to suggest you threaten them with the small claims court for breach of contract ,but you have resolved it, . It always makes companies get their finger out when they may end up in court when in the wrong. It could also have given you the opportunity to get out of any remaining part of the contract without any penalty (i.e. not paying £27:99 * the number of months left for the minimum contract period) .

Register a complaint with the ISPA against Wanadoo and send a copy to Which?
It is outrageous that you are forced to pay for a service that you are not receiving. The threat that your credit rating could be affected because Wanadoo is not providing a service for which you are paying should not be allowed.
It appears that the only way to deal with unscrupulous ISPs is to move elsewhere. Hit them on the bottom line of their accounts.
