I am contemplating a change of ISP and upgrading to Broadband. What will happen to the emailaddresses on my current ISP? Could I still use them after the change? If so what do I need to do to maintain the use of these addresses? It`s not financially viable to stay with my current provider.

It depends on what you have at the moment.
If you have a PAYG dial-up connection, then you should be able to receive e-mails from your existing account through your new broadband connection. You probably won't be able to send e-mail using your old accounts through your new broadband connection.
If you are on a pay-monthly tariff, and can downgrade to PAYG, then the same will apply.
However, if you're on a pay-monthly tariff and your existing ISP won't downgrade the account, then you will lose those e-mail addresses if you stop paying the monthly tariff.
There's a lot to be said for owning your own e-mail addresses by registering a domain (about £10 for 2 years with www.freeparking.co.uk).

Thanks Rob. Think I`ll sever all ties. Notify all I need to of address changes and begin a new life with Broadband.

If I were you, I would register my own domain name, so that if you change ISP again in the future, you won't need to tell people about new e-mail addresses. Well worth £5/year in my book.

I was using Freeserve until about a year ago but can still access my Freeserve email account so do you really need to do that?

RomanianExpress wants to sever all ties with his existing ISP (presumably it won't let him downgrade to PAYG), so he therefore will lose his e-mail addresses.
If you can still access your Freeserve e-mail address, then you're lucky. I assume that you don't still pay a monthly fee to Freeserve, so you must be on a PAYG tariff. Freeserve's policy states that a PAYG user who doesn't dial-up the Freeserve servers regulary will have his/her account closed.
Registering a domain name will guarantee that whatever your ISP does, you will always have the same e-mail addresses.

Some dial-up PAYG ISPs require regular dial-up to maintain an account. Not a real problem if you program it into a scheduler on your system. So, if your ISP has a dial-up service, dial-up within their T&C period to maintain it.
But, be warned, some ISPs have started restricting outbound e-mail to their own e-mail servers. This is to prevent you using third party e-mail servers to send mail whilst connected to themselves.
This is a real pain when you use several ISPs. The only problem ISP I have is Wanadoo, but I expect that there maybe others.
I have not yet found an e-mail server that can be configured to use a different SMTP outbound address when I am connected to a different ISP. e.g. connected to ISP xxx SMTP uses www.xxx123.net connected to ISP yyy SMTP uses www.yyy567.org
If anybody knows of an e-mail program that gets around re-configuring for each ISP dial-up, please post it here.
