Ive been experiencing a really annoying problem, this intermittent Broadband Disconnection. Modem recieved No signal, and Broadband stops, then auto connect and off she goes again. Sometimes Im online for hours, sometimes it disconnects every 2 minutes.. its infuriating. Im on WindowsXP with Aol broadvband. Done all the usual checks, and found now that my line is noisy... 63.3dB/32.5dB.... Im not sure what that actually means in noise terms, but the guys at AOL say its very noisy and will bump me off. Why is the noise intermittent??? Is there anything I could do to make this better??? I think its a line traffic problem... too many peeps signing up for Broadband and the wires cant cope. It seems worse after 5.30pm and is bad all evening..... midnight and after seems ok,,, so is the mornings... Thhanks

I had the same problem last week, I reinstalled the modem and now it's all fine.
Does your modem icon go yellow and say in training, Then no signal? If so I think you may have pulled the usb cable out by mistake. So maybe try reinstalling the modem, Don't take out or put in the Blue USB cable untill it tells you to.

If the line is noisy, it's a BT problem. Have you been in touch with them?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

With the amount of rain we're getting I'm not really surprised at line faults occurring.
The vast majority of BT cabling is very old and in many places the lines are sitting under water, because of all the rain and this causes problems to arise. I know, I've been there.
Get onto BT and get them to sort it out. With the noise your experiencing I'll bet it's down to flooded and damaged cables. A BT engineer will swap your line over to a better condition line if possible.

Thanks... I had thought It could be down to the water... as we have a long line, and it has been fine for months, then suddenly started going wrong in the last few weeks.. since the rain !!
Ive been onto BT who said, have you contacted your ISP its their responsibility... so I contacted AOL ( again) and they said "its a line fault its BT's problem".. so I phoned BT again... etc etc.
An engineer will come and have a look.... Thanks Sue
