Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to edit the registry in order to disable 'auto.search.msn.com'? I find that whenever I type in an URL or click on a bookmark that I know work, this 'auto.search' thing pops up and says either that I have mis-spelled the site I am seeking or that "we can't find the site". When I click on a bookmark that works, it is highly unlikely that I have mis-spelled it. Puta said ages ago that it may be because I have a slow-responding ISP. Whether that is the case or not, I would love to put a stop to this interfering "nanny". Can anyone help?

try this chris. (i just copied and psted puta's instructions, hope he doesn't mind).
Go to Spyware.com, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log
This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.
open that file Go to Edit | Select all Now click Edit | copy to copy it Come back to Web user, Right Click and paste its contents here

Try this
Open IE and press the search icon. Hit Customize. Click Autosearch settings. Choose a search engine from the list. Google Sites should be a choice for Autosearch. Press OK.

Hi Putasolutions, I did what you said but the only thing to choose from is MSN. There was nothing else to choose when I clicked the down-arrow eside "Choose a search provider for address bar searches". Perhaps I can add something??
Is there some registry key that I can edit or delete in order to stop this 'auto.search' thing that pops up automatically when I type an URL or click on a book mark and says I can't spell?
Hope you can help; it is really frustrating having this thing popping up practically all the time!

You caould just turn off search in the address bar,
Open IE Go to Tools | Internet Options Advanced
Scroll down to the Search from the Address bar section and check Do not search from the Address bar
