"Open with" not in context menu

Windows XP (+ SP3):

I've been using FileMenu Tools for a long time and one of the context menu items that no longer exists is "Open with...". Now I want it back because I'd like to choose which program to use on the fly rather than having to modify the setting for individual file types, but I can't see how to restore it.

Have I missed the relevant part of FileMenu Tools to do this? If not then I'd be quite happy to go back to the original XP context menu if necessary (however I have a laptop so that I don't possess any XP-specific installation discs); also I'm not averse to editing the registry so any suggestions for how to get "Open with..." back are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Re: "Open with" not in context menu

If you right click a file, say an image file, you should still have the 'XP' 'Open with' option as well as the Filemenu Tools menu option.

Re: "Open with" not in context menu

Pressing the "Shift" key while right clicking a file may give the "Open with" option, if it isn't otherwise present.

Thanks but...

How else does one get the context menu without right clicking on the file?

Shift...

doesn't make a difference.

Re: Shift...

Assuming you have a file selected, using this key

will show the right click menu.

This key is usually available between right ALT and CTRL key.

Re: Shift...

Yep that brings up the same context menu, without "Open with".

Re: "Open with" not in context menu

Restore Open With on the Right Click

Try the fix at KELLYS KORNER - Line 220, Left column.

SOLVED

Thank you very much, the registry key was missing and so adding the key/value as given by that link has worked a treat. Hurrah!!!
