Shut down and Processes

Two questions really...

1. Is there any reason my computer completely shuts down when I log on to PKR (online poker site) This is the only site that this happens with?

2. I have run the disk cleaner ( C Cleaner) I have AVG & Norton anti virus and use Mail Washer pro. However my system appears quite slow. When when I switch user it shows a program running on start up, how do i find out what is running behind the scenes and whether it should be there?

Thanks in advance

You need to know this for sure ( when you open AVG it will tell you in the top left hand side of the screen ). If it is the Antivirus and you're also running Norton Antivirus it could be part of the "system appears quite slow" problem. Two antivirus apps doesn't give you twice the protection , on the contrary it's almost certain there will be conflict. Best advice is to uninstall one of them.
Which one you ask.........if you let me know which version of Norton you're running , and when your subscription runs out , i can advise.

Can i also ask if you have an Antispyware program installed. ?

Re: Shut down and Processes

Ok Thanks..
Its def AVG Anti Virus Free
I also have Norton internet security 2005 (which has been renewed until 28/08/08)
I have also noticed PC Tools Spyware doctor which downloaded with a google pack.

I ran a scan today and Norton showed clear but spyware Doctor picked up a trojan proxy ranky infection? I do scans pretty reguarly and one will pick up something and the others dont so I am afraid to get rid of one but not the other.

I have noticed the system is ok when a browsers is open clicking from site to site. its slow when switching on and when you first open a browser as if there are lots of things running at the same time but nothing (obvious) is open?

Thanks again

Re: Shut down and Processes

Norton internet security 2005 contains a firewall as well as an Antivirus. As i advised earlier having 2 antivirus apps is not a good idea. As your Norton license has a bit to run i would guess you may want to get your moneys worth , so i suggest you uninstall AVG.
When the license runs out you may also want to consider upgrading to a newer version of Norton , or , revert to using free options for your Antivirus and Firewall.

This is the generally held belief as regards to using 2 Antispyware apps. As you already have one , spyware Doctor , it wouldn't be a bad idea to get yourself another. There are quite a few free options available and i would recommend... Spybot search and Destroy .

Have you removed this ?
