Update Firmware???

I bought some supposedly good quality DVD-RW discs and they are not taping properly and now they are not recognised by my PC when I put them in my TSST Corp CD/DVDW SH-S162L recorder/player. The online shop suggested I update my firmware. What do you experts think??? If you think I should how do I do that??

G'day Annie.
I find the DVD +RW are much better and more reliable for what you are doing.
