probs with movie maker 6

Hello all, I use vista 32bit o.s. I have just been trying my first attempts at video editing and have tried to use vistas movie maker 6 the one that comes installed with vista but with no success. On my desktop pc I can import videos but it will not allow me to add any content to the storyboard!! On my laptop it will not even let me import the video to the program. All the video I have tried has been in wmv format. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks Dave
