Cant find DVD Writer program.....

Cannot find how to burn/copy a DVD ! Got a new computer, Compaq XP Windows Media Player 10 , with DVD Rewriter . Cant find the program to copy DVD's ! Media Player 10 just seems to give advice how to burn music CD's ,All I want to do is put in a DVD and make a copy , am I missing something really basic here ?? I know the rewriter works because I copied the XP backup files onto DVD first thing , but I was prompted to do it by the computer so it done the copying for me .
I have used win 98se for 8 years and this is my first XP !
Any help appreciated !

I apologise I don't mean to sound patronising, it is a genuine suggestion.
Have you tried doing a search?
Just "search" for "dvd" and see what programes appear in the list.

Hi , Yes done a search but only lists info about how to watch a DVD , cant find any mention of "Rewriting dvd's" in the "Help & Support" section.

You will need a third party program to write your movie files to DVD.
Check NERO for the most simple and easy to use program.

Thanks , But.... Surely if I have just bought a new computer with DVD Rewriter it has to work ! That would be like buying a new car, having it delivered and then having to go out and buy your own engine !
There must be a programme supplied with it ? I dont want to spend another £50 on software to get it working . How did it manage to create a backup DVD for XP files , it burnt the DVD then ? thanks Colin.

You are of course quite right. I've just got a new HP/Compaq laptop and that came with Sonic as the DVD/CD writer. It is in C:\Program Files\Sonic\Digital Media Plus v7.

you don't always have to pay for things i use HT Fireman totally free.

Many Thanks ! It was there all along , in program files as "Sonic " . Glad its sorted but still a little angry that it isnt listed under "Help & Support" . Thanks again ! Colin

You're welcome Colin. Having pointed you in that direction I would suggest that you use something other than Sonic for your CD/DVD writing. I know it will cost you money but Nero is 10 times better than Sonic.
