laptops

i am wondering if there are any peeps out there who can advise me with regard to a good laptop ?
i am buying one for my son for his birthday i have £350.00 to £400.00 to spend i went into a shop today an the guy was tryin to sell me an acer 5720 2gig cpu 2gig ram 160 gig harddrive he said it was all singing an all dancin an was reduced from £499.99 on special offer ...
what i want to know is is this a good laptop or can i find something better quality for the same money never heard of acer im kinda tied to local pc shops or argos pcworld currys comet etc due to transport etc any help would be appreciated thanks giddy

I gues his special offer price of £500 must be really special when you can get it from here for £442! If you really want the best buys then doing it online is normally cheapest.

I use eBuyer a lot and they've got a nice machine here in your price range.

he is selling it at 349.00 reduced from 499.00 just wondered if acer an in particular that model 5720 was a good laptop or is there another brand thats better ? thanks
plus my son plays games online etc if that makes a difference

Acer have been around for a few years now and are normally quite reliable. If that one is down to £350 it would be worth considering.
