External Hard Drive / Storage Solutions

Hi there, my Dell PC running Windows XP is getting rather full and I'd like to transfer my photos (40gb at last check) to another storage medium. I've had a look at external hard drives but it seems to me from different comments that they are to say the least temperamental. I've visited these pages and seen something new to me a caddy where you can fit a hard drive of your choice. Is this easy to do and would this be the best solution? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: External Hard Drive / Storage Solutions

It is by far the best solution in my opinion. You have the choice of hard drive up to 750Gb (and even 1 Tb in some cases), and can be cheaper than purpose built external HDDs

Also you could consider a NAS (network assisted storage) caddy which uses ethernet, rather than USB to connect to a network, which makes it easier for multiple devices on a network to use the device, unless you add in a USB server

Alternatively you could consider a removeable SATA rack, allowing you to put in a drive as and when you want to back up, such as this one, most models have no theoretical limit to the size of drive

Thanks for your very quick, very informative reply. Think I'll go the caddy way. Cheers.
