Hi all I thought I would introduce myself on the forum. My name is Mark Wilson and I am responsible for putting together Web User's DIY Web Pages section. Although I haven't posted on the forum, I have been something of a background lurker and have contacted several posters to talk about their personal sites. I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for site submissions for inclusion in DIY Web Pages - I am aware that there are a huge number of site listed in this forum, but updates would be great. So if you have a site you would like included in the magazine, add a post or drop me a PM Cheers Mark Wilson |

Hi Mark, The website I am a co-author of (www.jocknroll.co.uk) has already featured in Web User but at that time it was very much an amateur effort using, of all things, MS Publisher. I taught myself how to use it. I've since got a hold of Dreamweaver and, with the help of a techy friend, completely revamped the site and it's a world of difference from the original incarnation. If you want to speak to me you can PM me. Cheers Paul aka The Cat |

Hi there. I run a non profit, non commercial games review site. (Amazon affiliate shop link removed now) I started it about 6 months ago and have been trying to keep it up to date ever since! Users are invited to register and add their own reviews. If they keep submitting stuff I like they get invited to join the core review team. It is asp driven by a mysql db and is written from scratch. Hope you like it http://www.yetanotherreviewsite.co.uk |

Hi My Ego Fatigo site is non-profit and non-commercial (I think, anyway - what constitutes non-commercial?). Actually, this site doesn't do too much at all, apart from offer random answers to people's problems. The site was fun to build, though, using a variety of Perl/CGI scripts etc. And some of the random answers are surprisingly 'relevant'. - http://www.EgoFatigo.com The site suffers a little from inexposure, go figure!, but many of the best problems and answers are revealed on the Problems Shared page - http://www.egofatigo.com/helloworld.html Steve |

I have 3 websites. This one - http://www.keithrichardson.co.uk is a TiddlyWiki website which would be of interest to your readers because it is so easy to setup and use. It looks like you have not ever written about these personal wiki based sites in Webuser. This one - http://www.healthwealthandmusic.co.uk is an entertainment focused portal using Joomla. It is multimedia rich whihc has advantages and disadvantages of course. This one- http://www.greenpolitics.co.uk is a news portal also using Joomla. The main disadvantage of my websites, technically, is that they depend on the user haveing Javascript enabled. |

I am a silver surfer and I have published my knowledge of our local village on a non commercial website which has been in existence since 1988. Cottingley's main claim to fame is the legend of the Cottingley Fairies perpetrated by two local cousins in 1917. The site is http://www.cottingleyconnect.org.uk. |

I've designed and built (and manage) the website for a conservation charity that I'm a trustee of. It started off small, but grows constantly and now includes a lot of information as well as photos, animal sounds, video clips, kids games, a forum and more. Predator Conservation Trust Like many people here, I suspect the site will never be "finished" - there will always be more things to add, pages to update or remove, layout changes etc. |

Created another Wiki site based on Dokuwiki - http://dokuwiki.healthwealthandmusic.co.uk/. If I wanted to I could make it completely open for anyone to edit which I have done using Mediawiki - http://mediawiki.healthwealthandmusic.co.uk/. Anyone can register and create articles. The dokuwiki one is an excellent and really easy way to create a personal blog. Take a look at the video clips and fotos that are easily imported. Of course, easy when you know how! Best of all, the software is Open Source and free to use. Keith Richardson |

Hello Mark, I'm a newbie and a silver surfer. I used the 1and1 system to construct my website, www.johncbird.co.uk. It was just a matter of following a series of simple steps and required no techie aptitude. As a writer, my site describes the work I have had published and broadcast, eg plays, television comedy material, poetry, short stories, non-fiction books and, most recently, a novel. There are also samples of my work. |

Hi Mark What about this? It's not designed to make money, get more members or provide a platform for people to talk to each other. It's simply a a way of telling people what we do. It was built for nothing, the domain name was free and it's hosted for free, all courtesy of those nice people at Microsoft. Free has a few drawbacks in terms of being able to do large scale editing but for a small charity like ours, it's acceptable. |

Thanks for the Gripping River Trust link - looks like a very nice site from a quick glance through it. Can I just ask the name of the person who designed/put together the site so they can be name-checked in the magazine if the site gets included. Many thanks Mark |

Hi Mark, I've just finished an free online social network that allows you to either create a virtual pub based on your local or create your own themed virtual pub. It's got the normal social network functions like messaging, blogging, pub forums (for each pub), games, buddy lists etc and sers can also create up to 5 web pages. Need some feedback on the useability of the site. If you have 2 minutes to spare could you take a look and leave me feedback. good or bad. There is some PPC advertising. I've had to buy some plugins for the site (spent around £60 of my hard earned beer money!) and hopefully the adverts will pay for the plug ins. I've spent 3 months creating the site using Joomla. Have been using Joomla for about 4 months. I'm quite happy to remove the adverts if you do a review. May even be worth you doing an article on Joomla? Thanks in advance. Ian |

Hi Mark In answer to your request, I would like to offer my little website for inclusion in your listing. Needaloo I have spent over two years locating and listing as many of the disabled toilets in the U.K. There are over seven thousand listed complete with a link to Streetmap showing the location. As I am disabled myself I have not been able to visit them all to check for accuracy, I have included various ways of contacting me to put me right on where the Streetmap arrow should go. Regards ChrisR |
