Random sounds from laptop

I have laptop running vista Home premium. Whist using it from time to time I get random sound bites. Ranging from music to an advert or a short burst of sound. Sounds like it's randomly tuning into a radio station!!
I've ran spybot, windows defender and AVG scan. No viruses or spyware/malware detected. Sometimes it's quiet then burst into life all on it's own. No pop up boxes, no specific web pages.
Any ideas
