Belkin Router help

OK, Problem is i bought a Belkin N Wireless Router so i could go online with my PS3. My PC didn't have a ethernet port, so i bought an Ethernet adapter which was looking like it was gonna do the trick, but on the belkin setup cd i got to the final step, which is were it searches for your internet connection and tells me it cant find it. My Modem and the ethernet adapter have different IP addresses so im thinking thats the problem. I just have no idea what to do.

Re: Belkin Router help

It still uses USB to make the connection. To be honest with you I think you've wasted your money. USB is not and never was designed for networking. The very fact that you have to download special drivers to make it work means that it is inherently unsuitable for the task. It also uses a huge amount of computer resource.

Whu did you decide not to get one of these or something like it?

Re: Belkin Router help

Don't really know buggar all about computers and I didn't wanna take it apart and make a mess of it, even though I've heard It's quite simple to do. On my router everything lights up apart from modem when it is actually turned on and internet. When i turn the modem off it detects the modem. Puzzles me.

Re: Belkin Router help

G'day moose2.

I have an ethernet-adpter in use on one of my networks, and works very well and have had no problems with it.
BTW my personal computers only use wireless LAN USB adapters now, got rid of the pci cards and ethernet hard wiring.
The networking computers are changing completly to USB wireless in July.

Re: Belkin Router help

I just don't understand, with everything connected the right way (I think) it cant find an internet connection.
On network connections it says i have 2. One from my modem and the other from the adapter. Also as soon as I do connect this stuff together I can't use the internet on my pc.

You will need to set up the PPAoA in the router to get internet connection.
Set Windows zero config to manual
Then you need to set the DNS server address and gateway.

Unless you know the correct sequence to set what you are doing up, it can take hours of trial.
I could give you settings but they would only serve as an example.
The manual that came with the router should have the correct settings for the adapter.

To cut things short put the router back in the box, return the adapter for a refund, and take a look at this.
The GWAR family have MAC accept/blocking security.
I use a GWAR3000 and also have a GWAR3500 for later use.

Re: Belkin Router help

Man, I really don't understand computers. The computer quite old, 2001 fujitsu siemens piece of crap. Bad specs. I am tempted to buy a new pc so badly and just start from scratch. The router cost me 80 pound and i really want to make it work.

Thanks for the help so far anyways.
