Question About Changing Linksys Wireless Mode

I have a Linksys router and it has never worked with my PSP. It works fine with my Wii so theres no problems with the settings on the PSP.
I have heard that it might be because my router is set to G Mode. I want to set it to mixed mode but have heard that when a B device uses the router it will slow the other connection ie my computer down to B speeds.
Will it only slow it down while the PSP is connected and go back to G when I switch the connection off on the PSP?
