New Laptop to replace Broken Desktop

Hi there, hope someone can help with my problem. I was running to pc's wirelessly through a netgear router, unfortunately my main pc has had its day so I bought a laptop. The broken pc is the one which has the router software installed on it with all the settings, passwords etc. I would obviously now like to use the new laptop as the main computer but am not sure how to. I tried to install the router software onto the laptop but it just started from the beginning like I was trying to set it up initially. I was advised to insert the disk and just download the drivers but there is no option to do this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Routers don't need software if they are connected via ethernet. What's the make and model of the router and how is it connected to your laptop?
