Can't connect Laptop

I have a pc connected by cable to a Belkin Modem Router. No problem with this. My son & I also have laptops connected wirelessly.(Usually!)All machines run Windows XP, and my Internet provider is Entanet.
The router stopped working last week and after many phone calls to India, Belkin say they will send a replacement, but I have bought one as I can't manage without the Internet. I set up the pc but couldn't manage the laptops so rang the helpline. They talked me through the set-up, but as soon as my son's machine is re-booted, he loses the connection again. I just can't face half an hour with the phone under my ear and hope someone can help me here.
The signal is 'excellent' and when I go to 'network connections' and choose the 'wireless network connection' that says connected, I can't find where to put (or at least check) the security key that I have on the pc. If I try to connect to Internet Explorer it says no connection to the internet currently available.
Please could someone give me some advice?
Thank you.

Re: Can't connect Laptop

The first thing I would suggest is that you try disabling the XP Wireless Zero Configuration

See this page on how to do that

Re: Can't connect Laptop

Thank you very much for your help. I have done as you suggested, but it was already stopped. I then disabled it as instructed but it hasn't made any differnce.
