Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hello Westeh

Step 1

Please Update your Sun Java console - You must Uninstall All old versions of Java first as they are a security threat if left installed. Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser. Then using Add/Remove Select any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name and uninstall.

Then Reboot your computer...

Now CLICK HERE select the Download button next to "J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9"
"Accept" the License Agreement Then choose the First download link "Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language". Please note - You must Install this version Offline.

Step 2

Now Please try going to: Start >> Programs >> Deskmates and Select Uninstall ( If Listed )

Then check for any Updates for 'AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5' & 'Spybot S&D'

Reboot into Safe Mode and then Scan your system with both of these

In your next reply please post both logs for me to check including where "Deskmate.Tahni" if found

Thank you.

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hello Westeh

I need to ask if you have intentionally installed a program called 'Deskmates' in the past..?

The JRE provides the Java APIs, Java Virtual Machine (HotSpot VM), and other components necessary to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language

You must place HiJack this into it's own folder,
If we ever need to restore any Item then this folder will safely store all entries
and enable us to then use the Back-up feature that Hijack This offers

To Create a New Folder HijackThis on the C: drive,

Open My Computer ( Windows key + E )
then double click on Local Disk (C:)
Now right click and select
New > Folder and name it HJT.

Now move HijackThis.exe into the new HJT folder.
Then please Re-scan and post the new 'HijackThis' log

Thank you.

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hi Westeh

Sorry to keep you waiting I've been very busy today..

Copy and Paste this post to a new text document

Step 1

You will need to make a back-up of the registry. This is standard procedure before carrying out any alterations to it.
Go to Start > Run, enter "regedit" (without the quotes) and click on OK.
Highlight My Computer by clicking on it and then go to File > Export...
Give the file an appropriate name, registry backup perhaps, leave the "Save As Type:" as it is and save it somewhere safe.
The Desktop is NOT a good idea as it's too close to the Recycle Bin for comfort!
This may take a moment or two so don't worry.

Go to: Start | Run, type in Notepad

Click Format from the Notepad menu and ensure "Word Wrap" is NOT selected.
Copy the Red Text below into Notepad.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3800100649-3223318493-2665676891-1005\Software\VHLD]

Click : File | Save As
Change the Save as type to All Files
Save it to your desktop as fix.reg

Locate Fix.reg on your desktop and double-click it.
When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.
Wait for the merged successfully prompt.

Step 2

Then Re-Scan your System with Spybot S&D

Next Open Hijackthis
Click Open Misc Tools | Open Unistall Manager.
A list of the entries in Add/remove programs will appear.
Click on Save List...
The list will be saved as Uninstall_list.txt

Please now Rescan with HijackThis and post:

1/ The new HijackThis log
2/ the Uninstall_list.txt
3/ The Spybot result

Thank you.

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hey

just read your post ourwilly, unfortunately i wont be able to carry out your suggestion for a day or 2 as i will be at work pretty much from now till god knows when...,but can i just ask,is this absolutely necessary or can i live with this deskmate thing,i havent noticed any probs apart from spybot finding it,i know it sounds silly to leave a piece of malware on my pc,but my main concern is...am i at any great immediate danger whilst i have it?and another thing,do u have any idea where i might have picked this up?.
i am sure i can run your suggestion if need be,but like i say it will be a day or 2,sorry to be such a numpty and ask all these questions, but any info is appreciated,Thanks

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hello Westeh

You can Remove the smitRem folder from your system you do not need this.

If your system is Running Ok now then please create a System Restore point

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hello Westeh

Re-Scan with Hijack This and place a checkmark next to these entries:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)

Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed and select "Fix checked". Exit Hijack This

Right-Click on and Delete this Folder
C:\Program Files\PartyPoker

Please try not to worry too much

May I ask if that earlier Registry fix "merged" ok for you
and Is your AVG Anti-Spyware still showing clean result's when you scan,

Thank you.

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hi again ourwilly

i did what u said in HJT,will post a fresh log now.
when i clicked the fix.reg it did merge ok yes.
i only asked about this specific piece of malware because i sometimes use websites for online purchases and i dont want any rubbish tracking keystrokes or whatever..?
when i use AVG anti-spyware it hasnt picked up anything....the first scan i did with it in safe mode took over an hour to complete but found nothing, and i scanned again earlier today (only windows/progfiles and main folders) but still found nothing.

here is fresh log anyway

Re: slight problem,any advce please?

Hello Westeh

"Ok" your AVG Anti-Spyware and Panda Scan are showing clean, so thats great

Please take a look at this link and scroll down to near the Bottom
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic69604.html

As suggested possible false positive which should get sorted out soon
so I recommend keep checking for the latest Spybot Updates for your system
